The Missouri River Valley Conference West division is primed for another great year. The league has won two state titles in the last four years and produced several other programs that have made deep runs in the postseason.

On top of the conference season there are quite a few non-conference contests that are interesting as well.

Let’s take a look at some big games each week of the 2019 season.

Week 1 – Harrisonville at Kearney
The Wildcats travel north for a rematch of the 2016 Class 4 state championship won by Harrisonville. Kearney rolled in this game last year 46-6 as Harrisonville was breaking in a lot of young players. The Wildcats will be looking for some revenge, but the Bulldogs are always tough at home.

Week 2 – Oak Grove at Blair Oaks
Since winning the Missouri Class 3 title in 2014 Oak Grove has struggled to get back to that level. The Panthers aren’t scared of a challenge as they open the season with Lawson and then travel to Blair Oaks to take on the defending Class 2 champ. If Oak Grove can find a road win here it could be the beginning of a solid season for the Panthers.

Week 3 – Sedalia Smith-Cotton at Warrensburg
Warrensburg had a solid first year in the MRVC West. The Tigers did keep some of their old West Central Conference foes on the schedule including Smith-Cotton. Warrensburg got its first win over Smith-Cotton in a long-time last year and are looking to back that up with another one this season.

Week 4 – Pleasant Hill at Grandview
Another good out of conference test as the Roosters travel to Grandview. The Bulldogs are a team built on speed and this should be a great matchup of styles right before the conference slate starts in the MRVC.

Week 5 – Odessa at Oak Grove
One of the best rivalries in the state of Missouri. Odessa has kind of ruled this matchup the last four years, but Oak Grove is looking to get back on the winning side.

Week 6 – Harrisonville at Warrensburg
This is a matchup of Class 4 teams in the conference and even though winning a conference game is always important the head to head win could also be key when districts come around at the end of the season.

Week 7 – Oak Grove at Excelsior Springs
The Tigers will be coming off two tough games on the road at Harrisonville and Odessa so a home game will be a welcome site. Oak Grove will know a lot about where its rebuild is by this point and this should be a pretty good game.

Week 8 – Warrensburg at Excelsior Springs
The battle of the Tigers could be a good test for both teams near the end of the regular season. Both are in Class 4 and this game should show where each stand heading into districts.

Week 9 – Odessa at Harrisonville
A game that could decide the conference title. Last year this was a huge win for Odessa, but the Wildcats came out on top in 2017. Both teams could be in position for big seasons, so this is a great way to end the regular season.
