Harrisonville Head Coach Brent Maxwell resigned Thursday after leading the program the last five seasons.

Maxwell took over in 2014 and compiled a 48-17 record. In 2016 he led the Wildcats to their first ever Class 4 state championship with a 21-14 win over defending champion Kearney. That brought the school’s championship total to five after winning Class 3 titles in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007.

“I feel blessed to have been able to be a part of and serve in such a wonderful program, school, and community with some amazing coaches and players for the last 13 years,” Maxwell said. “I can't explain the reasoning and the timing of this decision very well other than very recently my heart was telling me it is time to step down and shift my focus more towards my family whom have been so supportive over the years.

“I am excited to continue to work and serve in the Activities Director position and hopefully be able to help other programs grow. But mostly, I am excited to be able to pick my daughters up after school to hear about their day, to go and sit in the bleachers to watch their athletic events, and not have to schedule our family vacation necessarily around my schedule.”

Maxwell will continue as the Activities Director for the high school and defensive coordinator Kyle Schenker is now the interim head coach.
