Lincoln College Prep is on a roll. The Blue Tigers walked out of F.L. Schlagle Stadium with a resounding 41-6 thumping of Sumner Academy in this week's DiPasquale Moore/PrepsKC Metro Game of the Week.

The win was Lincoln Prep's eighth in a row to conclude the regular season. An administrative error cost the team big. Because Lincoln used an ineligible player in multiple games, six of those victories were vacated.

Officially, the Blue Tigers finished their 9-game regular season slate with a 2-7 mark. On the field where it matters, Lincoln Prep outscored its last two opponents — Southeast and Sumner — 97-6.

That is not a misprint.

"Ever since they took our wins, we've been out here trying to fight," running back Aaron Smith said. Smith scored twice against Sumner, including an 82-yard scamper to the house.

"We're trying to go to state," Smith said. "We're just basically bringing everything that we got."

Lincoln Prep has not lost a football game since Week 1. Sumner could do little to slow down this determined bunch from the Missouri side of the state line.

The Sabres fell behind 14-0 early in the first quarter. They trailed 28-0 at halftime. It wasn't until the first drive of the second half before Sumner scored its first touchdown.

A long pass reception from quarterback Jayden Gordon to wide receiver Marco Contreras set up Gordon's short touchdown run to make it 28-6.

Lincoln's Joseph Wade followed with a 65-yard kickoff return on a squib kick from Sumner. By the end of the third quarter, the mercy rule went into effect.

With the loss, Sumner dropped to 4-4 on the season. The young Sabres were overwhelmed early and couldn't stem Lincoln's tide, head coach Andrew Wright said.

"It was a good experience for our guys," Wright said."We needed a game like this."

Postseason football is here and LIncoln Prep is locked in. The squad has lofty goals, quarterback Aaron Rimson VI said. And the Blue Tigers remain focused on them, he said.

Rimson threw touchdown passes to Davyne Jones and Bryson Hill. Rimson rushed for another TD.

"We still know that we're a really good team, " he said.
