Coach Profile: Gardner-Edgerton's Kris Henry 7/16
By PrepsKC staff School in Great Bend, Kansas. In 1996, Coach Henry moved to Great Bend High School as an assistant coach for the ninth grade team. From 1997 to 2000, he was the Defensive Coordinator and also coached linebackers and defensive line for the Great Bend High School Panthers.
In 2001, Henry took a position as the defensive coordinator and linebackers’ coach at Claflin High School in Claflin, Kansas. The following year, he took over the program as Head Coach for the Claflin. That year, in 2002, the Wildcats had a record of 12 wins and 1 loss and ended the year as the State Runner-Up in Class 2-1A.
In 2003, Coach Henry accepted a position as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Larned High School in Larned, Kansas. He held that position for three years before joining Coach Marvin Diener on their move to Gardner Edgerton in 2006.
Coach Henry's coaching honors include being named the 2002 Hutchinson News All Class Football Coach of the Year. That same year he was also voted Great Bend Tribune Golden Belt All Class Football Coach of the Year. In 2003, Coach Henry had the honor of serving as an Assistant Football Coach for the Shrine Bowl West Team. Coach Henry grew up in the town of Prague, Oklahoma, and played for Prague High School before graduating in 1989. In 1994 He graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a BS in Health/Physical Education. In 2000 Coach Henry received his Masters degree from Fort Hays State University in Educational Administration. ![]()
