Losses cause movement in rankings
By PrepsKC staff The first week of the football season brought a little bit of change to the rankings in Missouri. In all six new teams entered the rankings after the opening round of games.
The top spots remained unchanged across the board. All six No. 1 teams won and maintained their position. There was some movement among lower ranked teams after a few losses to start the season.
In Class 1 Hayti and South Harrison were the only losers with Hayti dropping out of the rankings this week . Thayer moves into the top 10 at No. 10.
South Calloway and Mountain Grove are the newcomers in Class 2 with North Calloway dropping out. Class 2 features 11 teams as Lawson and Mountain Grove tied for the final spot.
Defending Class 3 state champion Logan-Rogersville opened with a loss and fell from No. 4 to No. 10. That loss allowed Oak Grove to move from No. 5 to No. 4 after its opening win over Lexington.
Harrisonville’s overtime win over Jefferson City Helias allowed the Wildcats to switch spots with Helias and move into the No. 2 spot in Class 4. Raytown South’s last second loss to Park Hill dropped the Cardinals from No. 5 to No. 8.
One of the biggest moves of the week was from Staley. The Falcons dropped from No. 2 to No. 5 in Class 5 after their 23-0 loss to Lee’s Summit West. The Titans now move to No. 2 behind Kirkwood and Fort Osage moves up to No. 3.
In Class 6 DeSmet dropped from No. 3 to No. 8 after losing to Columbia Rock Bridge. The top two spots remained the same with CBC at No. 1 and Blue Springs at No. 2. Rockhurst moved up to No. 3 followed by Rock Bridge. Blue Springs South also moved up on spot to No. 6.
