Kansas City Central will try to separate itself from the pack when the Blue Eagles take on Northeast Friday in Interscholastic league play.

The Blue Eagles, 1-1 overall on the young season and 1-0 in league play, are the only IL team with a win. They are coming off a dominating 46-0 Week 2 win over league foe East (0-2, 0-1) and look to take control of the league race against Northeast.

Still, Blue Eagles head coach Allen Supplee said, there is work that needs to be done after coming up short in a 28-22 loss against Hogan Prep to open the season.

“We should be 2-0 and everybody around here knows it,” Supplee said. “We have something going on here. We’re going to be a dominant force in the city. That’s my goal.”

The Vikings, 0-2, have yet to play a league game. They were handled by Forsyth in Week 1 and Richmond in Week 2 and are averaging only 13 points per game.

Defending IL champion Lincoln Prep (0-2) will try to notch their first win of the season on the road Saturday at University Academy. Plattsburg handed the Blue Tigers a 48-18 Week 2 loss.

East, just two years removed from a league championship, are 0-2 overall on the season. In addition to their shutout loss last week to KC Central, the Bears were declawed by Center 46-6 to open the season.

That 3-point per game average must improve, Bears head coach Greg Smith said.

“We have a young squad,” Smith said. “We’re just going to grind to get to where we need to be, but it’s going to take a while.”

Southeast is also 0-2 on the season. The Knights were shutout 62-0 in a Week 2 loss to Jefferson City Helias. They will face Schlalge (0-0) Saturday at IL Stadium.
