Maryville handles Lawson
By Andrew DeWitt St. Joseph News-Press Maryville coach Chris Holt knew he’d have a powerful team this season. Little did he know that his Spoofhounds would lay the wood down on Lawson 48-0 Friday night at Maryville High School. Maryville built up a 35-0 lead heading into the locker room. To put the Lawson (0-1) blowout in perspective, the last time the Cardinals suffered a defeat as bad as Friday night’s defeat was in 2008 against St. Pius X, 43-3. Blowing out a team that’s dominated much of the past decade and won a state championship is never easy. Senior Tyler Walter’s special teams plays lifted the team to the blow out victory against the No. 8 ranked team in Class 2. Walter returned five punts in the first half with an average of 26.4 yards per return. While that’s an impressive number on its own, Lawson punter Garrison Green earned all-state honors last season. “I didn’t see that coming; I was scared to be back there,” Walter said. “The whole blocking was great. I really didn’t have to do anything. I just had huge holes.” It was a dominant performance by the Spoofhounds (1-0) who lead 13-0 after the first quarter. For the rest of the story click here. ![]()
