St. Joe Lafayette runs past Odessa
By St. Joseph News-Press staff Lafayette ran all over Odessa for the second consecutive year in a 45-6 victory Friday night at Odessa High School.
The Fighting Irish had three rushers run for more than 100 yards and the team totaled more than 600 yards rushing in the offensive showcase. Lafayette beat Odessa 55-40 last year, but the Irish’s fast start didn’t allow Odessa into this year’s contest.
“(Getting off to a fast start) was huge; we didn’t want to leave it up to anybody else,” Lafayette coach Paul Woolard said. “We ran for over 600 yards. Any time you can do that it’s pretty impressive.”
Senior running back D’Andre Talton scored four touchdowns in the first half against the leaky Bulldogs defense. Talton added another touchdown in the fourth quarter to start the running-clock countdown.
Sophomore quarterback D’Treal Stone attempted only six passes, but it didn’t matter on Friday night.
The Irish led 25-0 at halftime, and the defense allowed its only touchdown in the third quarter. For the rest of the story click here. ![]()
