It wasn’t that many years ago that Shawnee Mission South was having a hard time finding wins let alone thinking about finishing with a winning record.

The Raiders have gone from 0-9 in 2016 to 7-3 last season with even more success on the horizon. South brings some good players back from that team including Kansas commit Will Huggins. The 6-foot-6 receiver was a force last season and could be even better this year after an off-season spent adding close to 30 pounds to his frame.

South will need to replace outstanding quarterback Jack Roberts but a lot of the offensive and defensive line return. It’s easy to see how far this program has come just by looking at the line. A few years ago South was dwarfed by many opponents but now the Raiders boast some of the better size in the Sunflower League.

PrepsKC caught up with the Raiders and Head Coach Brett Oberzan. Check out his thoughts on his team and the upcoming season.
