The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the coaches of the week. Raymore-Peculiar’s Sean Martin and Tonganoxie’s Al Troyer are this week’s winners.

As a result of this honor, both schools will receive a $500 player health and safety grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Additionally, both coaches will be presented congratulatory footballs autographed by Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a certificate recognizing their selection.

Both coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.

Tonganoxie moved to 6-1 on the season with a 35-0 win over Shawnee Mission East. The Chieftains coach said this award is for all of the hard work put in by everyone in the program.

“It is a great honor to have the community of Tonganoxie and our football program receive this award from the Kansas City Chiefs,” Troyer said. “I am blessed to be at a place where our success leans not on one man, but the combined effort of our coaches, athletes, teachers, administration and community. Thank you to the Kansas City Chiefs and PrepsKC for your continued support for high school football.”

Raymore-Peculiar defeated previously undefeated Liberty 35-7 to wrap up at least a share of the Suburban Gold Conference title. The Panthers coach said this award is for everyone in the Ray-Pec community.

“On behalf of Raymore-Peculiar High School, the football team and the communities that make up our district, I'd like to thank the Kansas City Chiefs, the Hunt Family Foundation and PrepsKC for recognizing our program,” Martin said. “This award recognizes the great effort of our kids that my staff and I are lucky to get to the opportunity to coach each week. This season has been about making the most of our opportunity each week and we are thrilled to be able to represent our school district every week.”

In its 24th season, the 2020 High School Coach of the Week is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis while honoring individuals who are shaping today’s youth and tomorrow’s leaders.
