Quote of the night
“I told them if they win tonight, you get a state championship chance next week because they’re the best team on this side of the state. We’re going to go after them like it’s our state championship.” – Olathe South Coach Craig Lewis after his team beat Blue Valley North to set up a game against Blue Valley Northwest who is the No. 1 seed on the Kansas Class 6A East bracket.

Stat line of the night
Tre Baker, quarterback, Lee’s Summit North – The senior had a stellar night leading the Broncos to a dominant 56-14 win over Ozark in the first round of the Missouri Class 6 playoffs. Baker finished with 213 yards on and six touchdowns on 15 of 19 passing.

Call of the night
Lawrence Free State opened the Kansas Class 6A playoffs with a 49-22 win over Wichita South. The Firebirds decided the game early leading 35-0 at the half. Free State quarterback Jet Dineen was a big reason why with a couple of first half TD passes including the third score of the game on a scrambling bomb to Jordan Brown. Derek Johnson was on the call for 810 varsity.

Dineen scramble turns into scoring.

Team of the night
Pleasant Hill – The Roosters beat Oak Grove 55-36 to advance to the Class 3 District 7 semifinals and move to 5-5 on the season. Just two years ago Pleasant Hill went 0-10. Last year new coach Justin Hamilton helped Pleasant Hill to a 2-8 record and this year the Roosters have more than doubled that total and have been in almost every game with four of their five losses coming by less than one score.

Big Winner
Lawson – The Cardinals have struggled through most of the season finishing the regular season 2-7. In six of the seven losses Lawson was shutout. That team didn’t show up Friday night at Pembroke Hill as the Cardinals earned a 36-35 win and now move on to the Missouri Class 2 District 8 semifinals against St. Michael.
