Young has been a football coach for more than 40 years with stops at Norborne, Marceline and Raymore-Peculiar in Missouri. He led Norborne to the semifinals and Marceline to the state championship game. At Raymore-Peculiar he helped turn the Panthers into one of the most successful programs in Metro.

His influence is as strong off the field as it is on it. While at Raymore-Peculiar he was a founding board member of the GKCFCA, helped start the Kansas vs. Missouri All-Star Game in 1992 and the GKCFCA Scholar Athlete program. Young has influenced more than 100 former players to remain in football as coaches including current Raymore-Peculiar Head Coach Tom Kruse and former Fort Osage Head Coach Ryan Schartz.
