The North Kansas City Schools Jamboree was hosted by Winnetonka on Friday night.

Each of the teams scrimmaged each other, which served as a “dress rehearsal” of sorts before the 2023 season officially starts next week.

Season outlook
Oak Park made it all the way to the district championship game in Class 5 last year. The Northmen went 8-3 and lost just once in league play. But it was Fort Osage who had Oak Park’s number in 2022, beating them twice including in that district title game.

It was a tough start for Staley last season before a six-game win streak had the Falcons at 7-2 entering the Class 6 2022 postseason. Staley’s stay in the postseason was short lived though as they we knocked off by a Park Hill South team, they had beaten 34-21 just three weeks earlier.

The North Kansas City Hornets couldn’t have started the 2022 season much better. Northtown was 5-1 heading into October but went just 1-4 in its last five games and ended their season with a loss in the district semifinals.

Winnetonka experienced a coaching change in 2022 and will look to get this season off to a good start against a familiar foe.

The Griffins and Oak Park will be right back at Winnetonka High School next Friday to open the season.

Staley is at Blue Springs in week one, while the Hornest welcome Columbia Hickman to Northtown.
