Senior running back Quincy Torry carried Lee’s Summit West to a 28-13 win over Blue Springs with 194 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Last week, Lee's Summit West trailed 10-0 at Liberty after the first half. The Titans responded in the second half of that game, winning 17-10 in overtime. That momentum rolled into the game against Blue Springs as LS West dominated the first half with a 21-3.

In his second season as head coach of Lee’s Summit West, head coach Willie Horn said he focused all off-season on preparing his team to respond to adversity. Lee's Summit West has shown mental resiliency since being down 10-0 against Liberty.

Quincy Torry has had a lot to do with that. He also ran for over 100 yards against Liberty, with most of those in the second half. The big plays he’s made running the ball have opened up Lee’s Summit West offense.

“When you have a kid that works that hard, it’s just finding ways to get the ball in his hands and let him do what he does,” Horn said. “And that’s what he did tonight.”

All three of Quincy Torry’s rushing touchdowns for the night were on plays of more than 20 yards. His first was a first-quarter handoff that he took for a 20-yard touchdown. In the second quarter, he burst for a 56-yard run on a counter to the outside. His final touchdown was a late-game carry to ice the game with a few minutes left that turned into a 43-yard score.

Lee’s Summit West quarterback Caden Carter hit receiver Adam Wooldridge for a 70-yard touchdown pass down the sideline to give the Titans the 21-3 first-half lead. Carter threw for 101 yards in the first half. Sophomore Dawson Edwards replaced Carter for most of the second half.

Blue Springs threatened on several drives in the second half but didn’t score its first touchdown until the last minute of the game.

Lee’s Summit West is now 2-0 to begin the season in Horn’s second season as coach after winning just three games all of last season.
