St. Thomas Aquinas traveled to face off against Blue Valley Southwest, where both teams were looking to get a win heading into the playoffs. All season long the talk around town has been about how dynamic the Blue Valley Southwest offense can be, but tonight their defense put on a show as the Timberwolves earned a 42-21 win. The victory moved Southwest to 7-1 which is the best regular season record in school history. Aquinas stands at 5-3 after the loss.

After turning the ball over on downs, the Blue Valley Southwest Timberwolves would get it right back. Landon Christiansen, who had his left hand wrapped in a club, undercut an Aquinas Receiver and came up with an interception. It didn’t take long for the Timberwolves to find the endzone as Quarterback Dylan Dunn connected with Receiver Alex Parks, giving them a 7-0 lead.

On the next possession for the Saints, they would turn the ball over on a fumble, recovered by Timberwolves Defensive Lineman Luke Falkner.

Blue Valley Southwest would strike fast again as Dunn would find a receiver in the endzone, this time it was Emmitt Peters coming down with a fade ball, pushing their lead to 14-0.

Aquinas got things going and put together a long drive after big runs from Aiden Skinner and Cole Richardson. Skinner would get loose and run it in from 10 yards out to put the Saints on the board.

The Timberwolves would move the ball down the field through the air with big grabs from Parks, Peters and Caden Huffman. Ultimately it was Dunn finding Parks in the endzone again with a nice catch and toe tap. Extending their lead to 21-7.

The Saints would battle back however and after another long drive which included a nice catch and run from Will Callahan, Cole Richardson would punch it in from 4 yards out to make it a one score game.

Blue Valley Southwest would answer, Dunn would find Tate Everard on a post route for a 34 yard touchdown. With 1:46 left in the half Blue Valley Southwest would lead 28-14.

A wild play just before halftime when Saints Quarterback dropped back to pass he was hit by  Timberwolves Linebacker Jackson Ready, causing the ball to pop up in the air and into the hands of his teammate Luke Davis who returned it 35 yards for a defensive Touchdown, making the score at the half 35-14, Blue Valley Southwest.

Luke Hancock would give the Saints offense good field position when he intercepted a pass from Timberwolves Quarterback Dunn. A few plays later and Aquinas Running Back Cole Richardson would punch it in from 6 yards out, giving the Saints life only being down 2 scores going into the 4th Quarter.

Blue Valley Southwest would take some time off the clock before a 2 yard Touchdown run by Quinn Lemons put them up 42-21.

Some late interceptions by Timberwolves players Peters and Ryan Specht helped put this game away, giving Blue Valley Southwest the 42-21 victory and big momentum heading into the playoffs.
